Conditions we treat

Help for the mind is real medicine.

Mental illness is treatable. The earlier a person gets a proper assessment, the better the chances of recovery.

Depression

Persistent sadness, loss of interest, low energy, and changes in sleep or appetite that last for weeks and affect daily life.

Anxiety

Constant worry, fear or panic that is hard to control, often with restlessness, a racing heart and trouble sleeping.

Schizophrenia

A serious illness that can cause hallucinations, false beliefs and confused thinking. It needs specialist psychiatric care and regular medication.

Trauma

Lasting distress after a frightening or painful event, such as flashbacks, nightmares, fear and avoiding reminders of what happened.

Addiction with mental illness

Drug or alcohol use often comes with depression or anxiety. We treat both together through our addiction treatment services.

Other mental vulnerabilities

Stress, relationship problems, behavioural issues and other concerns can also be assessed by our psychiatrists and psychologists.

How we help

Treatment options at our clinic.

Every patient starts with an assessment by our psychiatrist or clinical psychologist. Based on the findings, the team recommends the right level of care:

  • Psychiatric consultation and medication managed by a consultant psychiatrist
  • Psychotherapy and counselling with clinical psychologists and psychotherapists
  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for short-term stabilisation while living at home
  • Inpatient care in our 50-bed centre for male patients who need 24-hour support
  • Psycho-education for families so relatives understand the illness and can help

When to seek help

Signs it is time to talk to someone.

  • Low mood, fear or worry that does not go away after a few weeks
  • Hearing or seeing things others do not, or beliefs that seem out of touch with reality
  • Withdrawing from family, work or studies
  • Using drugs or alcohol to cope with feelings
  • Big changes in sleep, appetite or behaviour

If someone is in immediate danger or thinking about harming themselves, call Rescue 1122 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department right away.

What exactly is inpatient treatment?

The SCTI inpatient treatment program provides care 24 hours a day. Sometimes it is better to be taken out of your home environment in order to focus on recovery. After an extensive evaluation, a group of therapists, counsellors and psychologists comes up with a unique, personalised treatment plan. The plan is based on the patient’s diagnoses, interests and personality, and usually consists of group meetings and 12-step programs along with specific therapies such as expressive arts or equine therapy.

Should my family be involved in my treatment?

Family involvement is crucial for the recovery process. Most treatment facilities have a set period of time for the family to visit and take part in workshops or lectures. Many times, addiction stems from issues within the family, so it’s essential to understand family dynamics and provide a space for the family to communicate and heal. Not only does this heal the patient, it brings freedom and peace to the rest of the family.

How does SCTI manage doctors during an emergency?

Doctors are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at Safe Care Trust International, so in a medical emergency we can shift the patient to PIMS, Shifa International, Poly Clinic or another private hospital.
