Addiction & mental health services

Care that bridges the gap between hospital and home.

Addiction affects the whole person and the whole family. That is why SCTI offers a continuum of care instead of a single treatment. A dedicated team of consultant psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists and addiction counsellors works with each patient, from the first assessment to life after discharge.

Every patient receives an individualised treatment plan. Depending on need, this can combine medication, counselling, psychotherapy, group therapy, nursing care, recreation and family sessions.

  • Drug addiction and substance use disorders
  • Alcohol dependence
  • Depression, anxiety and trauma
  • Schizophrenia and other mental health conditions

Inpatient drug rehab

Our inpatient rehabilitation centre provides care 24 hours a day. With 50 beds for male patients, it is the right choice when a person needs a safe, structured place away from drugs and alcohol.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

The IOP is more intensive than traditional outpatient treatment. It is designed for short-term stabilisation and for resolving immediate problem areas. A big advantage of IOP is that the person continues to live at home.

  • Regular sessions with our professionals
  • Short-term stabilisation
  • No overnight stay needed

Individual counselling

One-to-one sessions of 50 minutes with a licensed therapist. After a detailed evaluation, the therapist builds a personalised treatment plan around the patient’s diagnosis, interests and personality, and plans for discharge from the start.

  • 50-minute private sessions
  • Personalised treatment plan
  • Discharge planning

Group therapy

Individual therapy is supported by group therapy matched to each patient’s needs. Sessions run for 1.5 hours with up to 12 clients and focus on three themes that decide long-term recovery.

  • Early Recovery Skills
  • Relapse Prevention Skills
  • Social Support in Recovery

Family program

Family involvement is crucial for recovery. Families visit at set times and take part in workshops and lectures that explain mental and addictive illness and show them how to support their loved one.

  • Family workshops and lectures
  • Psycho-education for families
  • Guidance for life at home

Medical and psychiatric care

Medical officers, a registrar and consultant psychiatrists look after each patient’s physical and mental health, including medication during stabilisation. Medical and support staff are on duty around the clock, with a 24/7 ambulance service.

  • Psychiatric assessment
  • Medication management
  • 24/7 staff and ambulance

12-Step philosophy

Our program draws on the twelve-step philosophy. Clients are introduced to local 12-Step programs and community support groups that help them stay sober after they leave. Read about our approach.

Aftercare and follow-up

A structured aftercare program is a necessary step in recovery, especially during the first two months after discharge. SCTI continues follow-up support with clients and their families. See aftercare in the program.

What is “rehab”?

Rehab, or “rehabilitation,” is any form of treatment or therapy for people who abuse substances; rehab can refer to a broad range of approaches used to treat a variety of emotional and physical problems. At Safe Care Trust International, our rehabilitation programs help people cope with their problems and address the issues behind their addictions. We work to resolve root problems and end the resulting behaviours, whether sex addiction, eating disorders, drug and alcohol addiction or other compulsive behaviours. In addition to treating addictions, we also have programs to treat depression, anxiety, mood disorders and other behavioural problems.

How do I know if I need rehab or treatment?

If you cannot manage or control your life because of an addiction or compulsive behaviour, you need rehab or treatment. Problem behaviours persist even when people with addictions are aware of the negative effects on their jobs, relationships and health. When a person starts to show signs of addiction, it is best to contact a professional counsellor, psychologist, psychiatrist or addiction specialist who can better assess the situation.

What is detox?

Detox, or detoxification, is the clearing of toxins or harmful substances from the body. A detox may be done by taking supplements or drinking liquids made specifically for detoxification, fasting and eating prescribed foods. This flushing of toxins is vital for an individual’s health and stability. While detox may be uncomfortable and difficult, there are ways to lessen the physical pain. Detox can be dangerous if it is not managed by a qualified medical practitioner.

Detox addresses the physical issues that come with addiction. Once a patient completes detox from alcohol or drugs, they are ready to begin the psychological journey to recovery. Different addictions call for different treatments, so discuss your situation with a qualified healthcare professional such as a therapist, addiction counsellor, psychiatrist or doctor, and ask for a referral to a reliable treatment facility.

What are some signs of addiction?

These common observable symptoms of addiction show the underlying changes in the brain and body:

  • Needing to continue or increase use of the substance to get the desired effect
  • Experiencing withdrawal when you don’t get the substance often enough
  • Focusing your social or work life around using the substance
  • Extreme mood changes: extreme happiness, sadness or anxiety
  • Sleeping noticeably more or less than usual, often at abnormal times of the day or night
  • Changes in your energy level
  • Extreme weight loss or gain
  • Lying to cover up your substance use
  • Stealing the substance, or money to buy it
  • General secretiveness, being careful about what you say to friends or family
